The band Toto was formed in the year 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro and David Paich (who were also acclaimed studio musicians with Boz Scaggs at the time) and singer/bassist Bobby Kimball. In 1981 Toto's third album Turn Back is a failure However, they resurface with their fourth release Isolation that features two hits including the title track and Roseanna. The album and tour established them as a brand around the world.
After a gap of couple of years, Toto return with the album Fahrenheit in the year 1986. It's a change from the ballads of previous albums and also includes some heavy rock. It was their first platinum album in North America.
During the recording of the band's fifth album, the band loses their manager and is financially in trouble. They decide to change their name and create a new album with a new producer. The lead vocalist Fergie Frederiksen is let go and replaced by Joseph Williams, son of legendary film composer John Williams and 1950s actress Barbara Ruick. Joseph Williams is a natural frontman, and provides the band with a much-needed boost.
In 1999, the band release Mindfields and begin an extensive tour across the globe. After several weeks in Europe, the band heads to Japan for sold-out shows. After a brief hiatus, Toto resumes their recording and releases their first live album, Absolutely Live in 1993. The album features a cover of Weezer’s song Hash Pipe as a response to the band's performance in Africa during their recent tour. Toto's touring band includes drummer Lenny Castro and bassist Shannon Forrest along with keyboardist Shem Von Schroeck.

It was the first time in more than 31 year that all of Toto's original members performed together. In addition to the original members keyboardist Greg Tambu filled in for Paich and bassist David Hungate filled in for Shem Von Schroeck.

The album marked a return to the band's best form and the tour that went with it featured sold-out shows in North America and Europe. Toto's reunion was bolstered by the inclusion of guitarist Steve Lukather and bassist Shem von Schroeck, both of whom had rejoined the group.
